Budtender of the Month: From Legacy to Legal to Leadership – Celebrating Natasha Forgie
December 8, 2025
Natasha is a true success story. She started in the legacy industry, transitioned to being a legal budtender, and has successfully climbed the ranks into a managerial position. When Natasha was nominated for this award, she was still a budtender. We're so proud and excited for Natasha, and we believe many others can follow in her footsteps.
A Decade of Dedication to Cannabis
When asked what drives her passion for cannabis retail, Natasha's response reflected years of commitment to seeing the industry thrive:
"Having been employed in different roles within the cannabis industry for close to a decade in both the legacy and legal markets, I have an unwavering passion and steadfast dedication to see this industry not only succeed but thrive. Legalization has brought about so many jobs and created a sense of community which I'm extremely proud to be a small part of. Being a store manager in a cannabis retail store doesn't come without its challenges, but I love a challenge and the benefits of working for an employer who values their staff is not only refreshing but extremely rewarding. Watching my staff excel and succeed in their own roles as Herbmasters (budtenders) is not only highly rewarding, it is equally fulfilling.”
At The Herbary Nepean, Natasha has built a reputation for fostering team success and creating an environment where budtenders can grow to their full potential. It’s a testament to her leadership and dedication to the industry.
Advice for Aspiring Cannabis Professionals
For Natasha, success in cannabis retail comes down to persistence and passion.
"The best piece of advice that I could give to someone looking to follow the same path I've taken is to not give up, no matter how difficult or unlikely it may seem that you'll land where you want to be. A year ago, I said I wanted to be in the role that I'm in now, and although I truly wanted it and worked hard for it, I never thought I'd get here as quickly as I did. If you're truly passionate about cannabis and cannabis education, you'll end up exactly where you want to be. Do it tired, do it scared, just keep going."
That mindset echoes across the CannSell community, where determination, education, and passion drive the industry forward every day.
Dream Roles: From Retail to Cultivation
When asked what other role she could see herself in, Natasha's love for the plant itself came through clearly.
"If I wasn't thoroughly loving my role as store manager at The Herbary Nepean, I would probably be putting my gardening skills to the test as a grower. I have always fantasized about starting my own craft cannabis micro-grow. Genetics and lineage have always been a subject of interest for me and to be able to play around with crossing some of the best genetics out there sounds like an absolute dream."
It's no surprise that Natasha's interests extend beyond the retail floor. Her deep knowledge of cannabis genetics and cultivation reflects the comprehensive understanding that makes her such an effective leader and educator.
A Vision for the Future of Cannabis in Canada
Natasha's optimism for the future of cannabis in Canada is rooted in community and safe consumption spaces.
"I can't wait to see what the future of legalization looks like in Canada. We've come so far but I feel we still have a long way to go. I have grandiose visions of, hopefully someday soon, seeing luxurious and upscale cannabis consumption lounges and cafes where High Tea would be a daily occurrence, allowing consumers to indulge in fine cannabis-infused desserts, and drink infused teas and coffees. A place to convene and sample cannabis products in a safe, controlled environment with other like-minded individuals. Although we are probably ages away from anything like that, Canadians urgently require safe spaces to consume cannabis, which I feel was a neglected topic at the time of legalization."
From her perspective at The Herbary Nepean, Natasha sees firsthand how evolving regulations and responsible retail can continue to normalize cannabis as part of a healthy, mindful lifestyle.
