What You Need to Know About CannSell Standard

Designed in collaboration with MADD Canada to ground all cannabis retail employees in safe, compliant, and responsible cannabis practice

Completion is mandatory for all cannabis retail employees, store managers, and license holders to be able to legally work in cannabis retail in Ontario

The course is online and self paced, and can be completed in the comfort of your own home on your computer or smartphone

CannSell Standard Course Outline

CannSell Standard Certification takes approximately four to five hours to complete. A mandatory passing grade of 80% or higher is required to complete the course, with a maximum of two attempts per purchase. In compliance with Federal and Provincial law and the AGCO, CannSell’s Standard Certification includes the following course modules:
A basic history of cannabis legalization and a guide to Federal and Provincial cannabis regulations for retail operators.
A basic overview of cannabis types, THC & CBD, terpenes and genetics and an introduction to legal cannabis products.
A high level overview of cannabis, its usage and it’s effects and interactions with the body.
A review of different methods of cannabis consumption and accessories. In-depth discussion of responsible cannabis use, and the risks and harms associated with cannabis. Detailed review of the dangers of driving while under the influence of cannabis.
Summary of licensing and compliance in a cannabis retail store, along with the sanctions and penalties of non-compliance. Detailed information on the requirements for sales, storage, security, inventory management in a cannabis retail store. Plus. how to check ID. assess if a patron is intoxicated, and when & how to refuse service.
An overview of Cannabis 2.0 products. launched in October 2019. This module covers cannabis edibles, vapes, extracts. topicals, and beverages.

A: The CannSell Standard Course certificate is required for ALL employees in the cannabis retail space in Ontario, including owners, managers, budtenders, and security personnel.
A: The minimum age to take this course is 19 years of age. In Ontario this is also the legal age to buy, use, possess, or grow cannabis, and the minimum age to work in cannabis retail.
A: All of our courses are self-paced, which means there is no time limitation. You can take as much time as you require to complete the course. You can leave the course to take a break and log back in to continue where you left off at any time.
A: Certificates do NOT expire but may require an upgrade in the future, depending on regulatory changes and updates.
